Alexa Rank: Can you explain it? July 23, 2007

How many of you still not satisfied with your Alexa rank?
Or how many of you that still not understand how Alexa rank work?
Actually, many of us already know about how Alexa rank work. It’s only about our daily traffic. The more traffic we get for our blog (s), the more higher our Alexa rank is. In Alexa, higher mean lesser. So if our Alexa rank is under 100,000, we are entitled to say that we are in a comfortable zone. What I mean is Alexa will give a chance for our blog (s) or site (s) to be listed in their official basic graph like this:
How to get this kind of infograph for our site?
Simple.
If you had installed Alexa widget in your blog, just click on it and you will be redirect to your Alexa page. In your “Traffic Graph” click at the Rank section and you’re done. But if you still don’t have an Alexa rank widget, you can just go to Alexa.com site and look for the Site Info column in the top right sidebar. Fill in your url in that column and click Go. Wait a few second and you can see your actual rank.
Basically, Alexa rank is important because it can “show” your site’s credibility. As a blogger, this is one of the most important element to put our blog to another level. And because of this, some of us dare to create a “trick” to boost their Alexa. You know who you are and maybe you are the creator for that “train trick”. Even I know that it really helpful for paid to blog programme, but I still not joined that “Alexa train”. Maybe one day I will try it but for now, I have my own reason to say NO and I’m also not ready for it.
What’s the reason?
Actually, I want to figure out by myself how Alexa make a determination about our rank (blog + web). The only thing that I did about my Alexa rank is by installed the Alexa widget and create more quality content so that I will get more returning visitor. For that reason, I had choose my Cool Site For Online People and Money Buzz Online site and monitor it from time to time. So today I will show you the result about my Alexa rank for that blogs.
OhMyweird.com (today)
How long: 1 year.
Alexa rank: 182,314.
Post-Buzz.com.
How long: 4 months ….!
Alexa rank: 208,024…!!!
For your information, the daily traffic for OhMyweird.com is 3 times higher than Post-Buzz.com but the rank is too slow. For me one year is too long for this kind of rank. Compared to Post-Buzz, it managed to get a good rank in 4 months. Again, the daily traffic for Post-Buzz was not so good as OhMyweird.
So how Alexa determine this rank?
